Usage of Ferro phosphorus

Ferro phosphorus is an additive to the production process of ferrous metals. One of the primary benefits of adding phosphorus is that it acts as a drying agent that helps in removing water content from nitric acid that’s used during manufacturing. The use of phosphorus as an alloying agent can improve the corrosion resistance of certain steel grades.
Although it’s a harmful activity for many steel grades, it can also improve the corrosion resistance of many steel grades. Whenever a steel plate with phosphorus is used, adhesion between the sheets of steel is prevented. When producing rolls, phosphorus can improve fluidity and avoid cracks on the surface. This also improves the cutting properties of steel. This is how ferrophosphorus is used in steelmaking.
Usage of Ferro phosphorus in casting
It improves the fluidity of cast iron and thus improves the quality of castings. Whenever you produce wear-resistant cast iron with a high level of phosphorus content, a uniform binary phosphorus eutectic structure is formed in the casting. Due to the high hardness of phosphorus eutectic, it contains a lot of phosphorus which can improve its wear-resistance. Currently, most of the usage of Ferro phosphorus is in the foundry industry.

There are two production methods of Ferro phosphorus, one is for the production of Ferro phosphorus only whereas the other one is mainly for the production of yellow phosphorus. Many people produce Ferro phosphorus with the first method. Since the consumption of Ferro phosphorus is not relatively large, small and medium-sized electric furnaces are often used when the second method is used for the production of Ferro phosphorus.
